Uniforms of the American Revolution
These were the uniforms of the Patriots enlisted in the Continental Army. These uniforms were very plain in comparison to the British soldiers. At the beginning in the war, brown was the official color, but as the years went on, they changed. By the end of the war, the uniforms included colors such as, brown, red, or blue. The Patriots who went off into war either knee breaches or trousers. Trousers were a popular garment among the working class and sailors, and went down to about below the calf or just above the ankle. The "Redcoats"
During the American Revolution, the British wore red uniforms. This is how they got the name "Redcoats" or "Lobster backs". Although most people think that the British only wore red uniforms, there were some blue British uniforms during the Revolutionary War.
